Your bat speed and exit velocity as a hitter will be two of the most important metrics college coaches will notice when evaluating you as a hitting prospect. So, what are the things you can do to increase your bat speed and exit velocity as you progress through high school and into college?
Remember that the internet is full of free coaching and advice -- some of which can be helpful, but most of which is up there to sell you (and your parents) a product or service. Over time we'll add selected videos and posts that we come across that can help you improve all aspects of your hitting, including how you can increase your bat speed and exit velocity as you progress a player.
To keep it simple, when it comes to increasing your bat speed and exit velocity we'll bucket hitting resources into two categories:
Hitting and Swing Mechanics -- these are resources that help you develop your hitting swing so that you optimize your body's bio-mechanics and coordination in a way that maximizes power and keeps you healthy. Below are a couple resources on hitting mechanics to get you started, but always be sure to check with your high school and/or summer ball coach to get the guidance you need. (Note: MyNextPlay.org does not endorse or receive financial consideration from any of the services listed below).
Hitting Strength and Mobility Training -- these are resources that help you get stronger and more flexible so that as you perfect your hitting and swing mechanics, you are able to physically maximize your bat speed and exit velocity. Below are a couple resources on strength and mobility training to get you started, but always be sure to check with your high school and/or summer ball coach to get the guidance you need.
