Overview: How to increase baseball pitching velocity

Your fastball velocity is the first thing college coaches will notice when evaluating you as a pitching prospect. So, what are the things you can do to throw harder as you progress through high school and into college?

Remember that the internet is full of free coaching and advice -- some of which can be helpful, but most of which is up there to sell you (and your parents) a product or service. Over time we'll add selected videos and posts that we come across that can help you improve all aspects of your pitching, including how you can increase your velocity as you progress a player.

To keep it simple, when it comes to increasing your fastball velocity we'll bucket pitching resources into two categories:

  • Pitching Mechanics
  • Strength and Mobility Training

Pitching Mechanics -- these are resources that help you develop your pitching motion so that you optimizes your body's bio-mechanics and coordination in a way that keeps you healthy. Below are a couple resources on pitching mechanics to get you started, but always be sure to check with your high school and/or summer ball coach to get the guidance you need. Pitching Strength and Mobility Training -- these are resources that help you get stronger and more flexible so that as you perfect your pitching mechanics, you are able to physically maximize how hard you can throw. Below are a couple resources on strength and mobility training to get you started, but always be sure to check with your high school and/or summer ball coach to get the guidance you need.
